Yesteryear Collection

One of the most remarkable and technically advanced cars of the 1930's, the Cord model had retractable headlights, front wheel drive and with Supercharged engine reached 120 mph.
Alas it was the last model ever produced by the Cord Company which went into liquidation shortly after the introduction of 812, therefore making this model a collectors item since only a small amount were built.

The Cord 812 is a luxury American automobile built in 1936 and 1937 by the Auburn Automobile Company in Auburn, Indiana. The car was equipped with a 4.8 liter engine that delivered 125 HP. A total of 3000 were built in different body variants.

The (Y-18) 1937 Cord Model 812 Supercharged Convertible Phaeton Sedan to give it its full title according to the baseplate inscription was introduced in 1979.

Variations/Rarities: The first release was in an orangy-red which is very similar to the second version which was issued in 1981 and coloured dark red. Shades of red exist from a very light bright red to a much deeper red.
In 1983 it was released in plum red.
The final issue was pale yellow and it featured extra silver trim to the grille, doorhandles and kickplates. It had red trim to the tail lights and the licence plates were highlighted with blue tampo licence plates.

No variations have ever been found to the bodywork and only the various wheel types - solid chrome, solid red, 24 spoke have provided any interest. Examples of the first release with 12 spoke chrome wheels have also been seen.

The Cord was the first model to feature solid disc type wheels and it was also the first model to be fitted with whitewall tyres.

The Cord 812 Supecharrged Viton was re-issued in 1995 as part of the "Grand Marques" series. This model was coded by Matchbox Collectibles as YY018A/C.

The maroon J box for the Y18 Cord is a very rare box and is one of the two rarest J boxes, the other one being for the Y10 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost.
